Kirstin's 2000 Golf GL

How long have you owned this car?
Since September 2008.

Is there anything unique about the history of this car?
It was involved in the Gunfight at the O. K. Corral.

Why did you choose this car to purchase?
My Saturn wagon was a compulsive over-heater and I was in dire need of a new ride.

What other cars did you consider?
Anything Volkswagen – Nothing American.

What was your objective with this car?
Style and speed…it’s still a work in progress.

What tuning style would you describe this car as? (ex. Euro, Bling, OEMplus, street racer, auto crosser).
OEMplus

Who helped you build this car?
Carlton, Joe, and Matt.

What makes your car special?
The driver.

What is your favorite part/feature/function?
My crank windows. They ground me when I get too big for my britches.

Who or what inspired the direction of modifications on this car?
Nothing inspired the mods; it’s about confidence and panache. I typically won’t do anything unless I’ve consulted Carlton.

What don't you like about this car?
The fact that I have so much left to do with it.

What was your biggest obstacle in building this car?
Time and money.

How did you overcome the issue?
Made time…and money?  I did what I could when I had the funds and made time to make it happen.

What would you change if you could?
A few stupid aesthetic things – fix the dents, new CD player, automatic windows, new windshield, some upholstery work, etc.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how satisfied are you with the outcome of this project?
As of right now, I think I’m at a 4 with what I’d like to do completely.  I am, however, pretty satisfied with things right now.

What would you do to the car if money were no object?
Completely pamper her.

Who has been your biggest critic of this project?
Myself.

What do your family and friends say about this car?
It’s made good progress but still has a way to go…and I agree.

What is your most memorable/humorous/embarrassing moment with this car?
I was driving to Buckland Hills and my exhaust breaks on 84 instantly giving me a fart can that ruined any chance of actual conversation inside the car.  I slowed down and drove in a way that would keep it as quiet as possible.  Once I got to the mall, I was driving through a parking lot and actually set off a car alarm.  Fail.

Has this car competed in any events? Results?
Nope.

What is your favorite place to drive this car?
The streets of Waterbury because almost every time I’m down there people try to race me.  It’s a great confidence booster.

What is your ideal day with this car?
Hand wash, wax, and detail her.  Then I’d take her for a cruise and maybe a movie at the drive-in.

Who gets to drive this car?
Only me.  Carlton likes to drive it when I’m on vacation, so he can take snazzy pictures.

If your car had a motto, what would it be?
Parva sed potens.

If you had to name your car, what would you name it?
Sadie Mae.

What was your previous project?
1984 Rabbit.

What is your next project?
Maybe a Jetta.  I’m always thinking.

What one word best describes your car?
Silver.

Anything else you’d like to share?
I love bargains.
